Sermon2MP3

Sermon2MP3 support

Sermon2MP3 turns the Sunday sermon recording (a large, quiet WAV file from the USB stick) into an MP3 that is loud enough to hear on a phone and small enough to send on WhatsApp.

How it works

  1. Tap Choose recording and pick the WAV file from the USB stick.
  2. Wait while the app measures the volume and converts. Please keep the app open until it is done.
  3. Tap Listen to check it, then Share to send it to WhatsApp.

The MP3 is named after the date, for example Predigt-2026-10-25.mp3, and is always under 30 MB. Everything happens on your device: no account, no upload, no internet needed.

Sermon2MP3 runs on Android, iPhone and Linux, in German and English.

Questions and problems

My phone doesn't show the USB stick

The stick has a USB-A plug, so your phone needs an adapter (OTG). On Android, connect the stick before tapping Choose recording; it then appears in the file picker. On iPhone, it appears in the Files picker; iPhones with a Lightning port need Apple's camera adapter.

"This file can't be read. Is it a WAV recording?"

Sermon2MP3 only converts WAV files. Make sure you picked the recording itself (it ends in .wav) and not another file on the stick. If the stick was pulled out while reading, plug it in again and try again.

Where is my MP3?

Android: in the Music/Sermons folder. iPhone: in the Files app, under Sermon2MP3. Linux: next to the recording, or in the folder you chose in the settings. If the stick is write-protected, it goes to ~/Music/Sermons instead.

The conversion stopped when I locked my phone

On Android the conversion keeps running in the background and shows a notification. Please allow notifications for Sermon2MP3 so you can see the progress. On iPhone the app must stay open in front until it is done; the screen stays on by itself while converting.

The MP3 is still too quiet, or too loud

Open the settings (the gear icon) and change Volume to Normal, Louder or Loudest, then convert the recording again.

"The sound quality is lower" or "too long to fit"

To stay under the 30 MB WhatsApp limit, very long recordings (over about an hour) are saved at lower quality. A recording that is far too long can't fit at all; a normal sermon of 30 to 45 minutes is never a problem.

Linux: "FFmpeg is not installed"

The Linux version uses your system's FFmpeg. Install it with your package manager, for example sudo apt install ffmpeg or sudo dnf install ffmpeg. It must be a build that can create MP3 files (with libmp3lame).
